A stunning sight to see, Campo de’ Fiori Square is surrounded by glorious palaces. It was originally a vegetable and flower garden, which is where it gained its name. In the 15th century, the Parione district went into development in order to become a commercial and cultural center in Rome. A market was started here for the convenience of the powerful inhabitants of the area.
Fast forward to the present day, it’s the most popular fresh produce market in Rome. It's hosted from Monday to Saturday, from early morning until 2PM. A variety of goods are sold, such as fruits, vegetables, food and drink, flowers, accessories and souvenirs. There are also multiple restaurants dispersed throughout, ensuring that you don’t go hungry while you browse and shop. You can also stay in the area when the market ends, as there are several popular pubs in which you can spend the evening. Perfect for a little bit of everything, the Campo de’ Fiori Market will brighten up any morning.

New Testaccio Market – Nouvo Mercato de Testaccio
Based in an authentic Roman neighbourhood, Nouvo Mercato de Testaccio injects minimal and contemporary appeal into Rome’s market scene. An indoor market that comprises almost 58,000 square foot (5,000 square meters) and can house 103 stalls, it’s easy to find whatever you’re looking for in the new Testaccio Market. Geometric in design, in feigns the traditional open-market design with transparent panels, conveniently providing protection from the sun and the rain. A clean and bright rendition of the original market, it sells specializations in every food imaginable: fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, cheeses, nuts, coffee, pizza and more. They also sell clothes and kitchenware, but food is clearly the star of the show here. Despite lacking the usual feel of a bustling marketplace, this modern space brings markets into the 21st century while providing every grocery you ever thought you needed.

Mercatino di Ponte Milvio (Antiques Market)
One of the most important and select flea markets in Rome, Mercatino di Ponte Milvio is the assured place to acquire the best antiques and vintage finds. Falling on Sundays every month, antiques are sold on the second and final Sunday, whilst handcrafted products are sold on the third. Every week, 150 merchants gather by the Tevere River in order to showcase their goods, ranging from furniture and home décor to artistic pieces, such as painting and sculptures. With up to 400 stalls present on a weekly basis, there’ll always be something unique available for you to bring with you to perfect your home or gift to someone else. Open and running from 9AM to 6PM, there’s plenty of time to browse and purchase some pre-loved artefacts.

Mercato Monti Urban Market
A stark contrast to the prior-mentioned markets, this modern, urban space will complete any trip to Rome. Mercato Monti presents a blend of vintage shopping and art showcasing, displaying the work of a variety of new Italian designers. With an air of pop art on location as well as on their website, they provide an alternative experience to your traditional Italian market. A safe space for creators new and old, it serves multiple functions: merchants can sell goods at the numerous stalls provided, whilst creators can present their work and gain some exposure within Italy’s capital. Occurring from September to June and hosted every Saturday and Sunday between 10AM and 8PM, it’s well worth a visit for shopaholics and creatives on the hunt for inspiration.
